This series of online talks, organised by Amsterdam University, will bring together judicial practitioners from the CJEU and national courts to share their insights on how they handle scientific or technical complexity (or uncertainty) in various policy domains. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of how this issue, which has been extensively studied by scholars, affects the actual decision-making process of judges. Each session will feature one speaker who will deliver a 30-minute presentation, followed by a 30-minute discussion. There will be four online sessions, one per month from March to June 2024.
On the 25th of March, Michal Bobek is the first speaker. He is a legal scholar currently serving as a justice at the Czech Supreme Administrative Court. He is a visiting professor at the Institute for European, International and Comparative Law at the University of Vienna Law Faculty and external lecturer at the Charles University Faculty of Law in Prague. He previously served as the Advocate General at the European Court of Justice in 2015 - 2021.
